The cut-off date for voting in the 10th annual CNN Hero of the Year contest ended today at 4 p.m. ET.
The title of the official CNN Hero of the Year award goes to an individual who has made an extraordinary humanitarian effort to help people in need. For a scorecard with the entries from previous years, click here.
This year’s 10 finalists include the Secret Garden Project, a nursery school in Afghanistan for children with severe disabilities; Meeting Survivors’ Children, a gift shop for children who lost family members in conflict; Guadalupe, a hospital that provides care for children with life-threatening illnesses; and Shaheed Mohammed Motha, a Pakistani children’s theatre group.
The finalists in all seven categories will be featured in The CNN Page, starting Aug. 10, from 7-9 p.m. ET on CNN International.
